Review - Anders Ilar - Downhill

Anders Ilar - Downhill (Narita)

Some spacious and quite transporting scenes here, clicky enough for the mix and there’s something perceptible which is digitally sinister going on with the productions by this rising name. Luckily though, the tracks are individual enough in themselves to avoid being written-off as being merely remarkable because of that sheen. It’s the collaboration with Adam Johnson, ‘Riding Metal Mosquitoes’ which sounds like it has the capacity to haunt you. Over the aforementioned clicks, it deploys a physio-cybernetic, guttural and conspiratorial whisper to tell me something subtle, yet quite wicked. I’m passing it on. Arctic Hospital adds an unusual time signature to the offerings with his remix of the title piece. It’s topped off with some similarly warm nebula and evolves into quite a good analogue of affect.
