Bleep43 - Fri 27/2

BLEEP43

Fri 27th Feb @ Corsica Studios

We’re hoping that you can join us for what promises to be an extravaganza of musical styles on offer for our first party of what promises to be an action-packed year in 2009. Many thanks to all of you who helped us see off 2008 in style with Surgeon and DJ Pete laying down an epic marathon of techno, dubstep and much more, aided by the incapacitating bass of Mick Harris’ Scorn project.

February’s party sees us welcome back two American artists who we’ve grown close to, namely DJ Stingray and Convextion. Stingray’s just launched a new label Micron Audio, and he’s invited Madrid-based Annie Hall over to play as well, so there will be a fair amount of electro and deep techno on offer, aided by our own Jo Johnson playing live and regular guest Dask from Rebel Intelligence. We’re also excited to have another Den Haag legend following in the footsteps of Legowelt and I-F, namely Intergalactic Gary, who will be providing you with a 3 hour set of ridiculously rare Italo and Synthpop mixed in with the best in Chicago House.

DJ Stingray

One of Detroit Techno’s more unique characters, Stingray grew up honing his DJ skills alongside Moodymann at the Outcast club playing hiphop and early electro, before making his name as Urban Tribe, producing a number of records alongside such Motor City luminaries as Carl Craig and Anthony Shakir. Whilst known for his association with the mysterious Drexciya, he has consolidated his position as a purveyor and DJ of fast, punishing electro. 2009 sees him return to Bleep43 after a successful debut last year, this time to promote the launch of his new label, Micron Audio

Convextion

Gerard Hanson is no stranger to Bleep43, having made his European debut for us back in 2006. His reputation as a producer of deep techno goes back to 1995, but it wasn’t until the release of his debut album two years ago on Downlow that we finally got to see what he was capable of. Whether switching between Convextion or his more electro-orientated E.R.P guise, the last couple of years has seen Dallas-born Gerard establish himself as one of the premier techno live acts in the world, playing at Fabric, Berghain and Japan’s Labyrinth festival, garnering a strong reputation for melodically rich, textured material.

Intergalactic Gary

Last year we entertained I-F, and this year it’s the turn of his long-time collaborator and fellow Den Haag resident Intergalactic Gary to take to the decks for another marathon of obscure Italo, electro, Chicago House and synthpop nuggets. As one half of the Parallax Corporation, he’s been a central figure in the rebirth of the Italodisco movement, and has been Djing since the mid-80’s.

Annie Hall

As part of the Micron Audio showcase, we’re very pleased to announce Annie’s debut live performance in the UK. Hailing from Madrid, Ana Moreno’s melodic electro has already been captured on vinyl by Dublin’s D1 label last year with a debut EP, and she recently wowed the DEAF festival in Ireland supporting Model 500. Away from the dancefloor she is concentrating on a more experimental project called “Daughter Produkt” which promises a collaboration with Heinrich Mueller.

Jo Johnson

After a much-lauded performance at Bloc last year, Jo is preparing another of her increasingly-talked about live sets for us. With a range of influences that range from Steve Reich to Drexciya and beyond, and an insistence on a uniqueness to each performance, her sound is always mutating and evolving.

Part of the Rebel Intelligence crew, who are due to release the first record on their new label shortly, Dask has been a regular at Bleep43 ever since 2002, Djing electro, techno, funk and hiphop.
