Podcast 160 - Matt Cogger

This week’s guest mix comes from Matt Cogger aka Neuropolitique. Famed for his abstract techno on such pioneering labels as the legendary Irdial discs and New Electronica, I’m happy to hear that Matt is dusting off the kit for new releases soon on Kirk De Giorgio’s label.

Recorded in 1990 whilst in Detroit for local radio station WJLB, it’s a little snapshot of the Motor City at that time. I’ll let Matt tell the rest of the story.

“WJLB FM98 Saturday Night Dance Mix September 1990 - never broadcast.

I seem to remember Martin Bonds and myself spending a lot of time in Kevin Saunderson’s DJ room next door at KMS - it was where the building conjoined Transmat, Metroplex and KMS in a sort of corner staircase on the Riopelle Street side.

Kevin and Derrick had pooled their collection together so the choice of quality records was endless. This was one of the mixes I did up there along with Martin, Kev-Rock and a big bag of weed for company. Thanks to an old friend for digging out the tape. I’m amazed she still had it kicking around. She also had an ‘in’ at WJLB - not much of one it transpired,  as they thought it was too ‘rude’ for broadcast.

Their loss I say.

Apologies for the quality, it came off a TDK D-90 - I also had to edit out a really long station ident”
