Optic Nerve - 3 Dimensional EP

Given the paucity of quality in recent Aux88 releases, hearing some straight up Motor City electro/techno from Keith Tucker is heartening. The main track “Virtual Depth Perception” is one of the finest pieces he’s put out in a long time, full of Detroit atmosphere and 135 bpm funk, whilst “Illusionist Theme” is awkward, weird techno that reminded me more of Black Nation material from Jay Denham than anything else. The Drexciyan/ERP warmth of “Retina Display Scan” doesn’t quite reach the same heights, but adds a melancholic tinge to proceedings.
Label Diametric have put out some excellent releases from Morphology and Arne Weineberg recently and seem to have their ear on quality rather than quantity. This is another one for their growing reputation.
