C-Beams - Strollin'

Uncanny Valley

This unassuming Dresden label has chalked up a number of excellent tracks over the past year or so and continues in fine form with this new release courtesy of C-Beams, aka Break SL and Stefan Menzel. There’s a lot of rather average German deep house about at the moment, but the former in particular has been releasing excellent, textured material for some time and his partnership with Menzel here is to say the least, fruitful. The title track is given some soulful touches by vocalist Tina Slotta, but it’s with the Jackmate remix that things kick off, full of angular, stabby strings and flickering acid flourishes. I’ve never been quite convinced of his talents but he shows some promise here. “Scrapyard” is even better, its thumping kickdrums mutating into unexpected directions.
