Review - Sten - Way to the Stars

Sten - Way to the Stars (Dial)

Peter Kersten rarely fails to hit the spot, being one more of the more thoughtful and ultimately musical composers to have emerged from Germany in the last few years. His “Sten” alias usually means more direct, darker material, and the title track is just that as an awkward and hypnotic bassline snakes along, furnished with 808 claps. Kersten’s main strength is in making his tracks sound spacious, with the drum programming never obtrusive and each element allowed room to breathe. “Way to the Stars” hints at a more forceful attitude towards his music, as previous releases were somewhat ambiguous in their approach, and is better for it.
